If you’re a longtime reader, you know I have some especially “strong” feelings about fall decorating. In short: I do not believe in buying fall-specific decor. No throw pillows that stay stuffed in a closet for nine months of the year. No faux autumn leaf garlands. And we definitely, definitely do not need a pumpkin-shaped Le Creuset.
That said, I do feel that it’s entirely acceptable to capitalize on the nostalgia of back-to-school and use this time as an opportunity for renewal. Otherwise known as the “room refresh.” Now, I truly, truly hate when decor media employs the term “room refresh,” but I can’t really think of another way to succinctly describe the actions of “buying some new sh*t for your place.”
When I think about autumn vibes, I also want to think about what makes sense for the rest of the year. Is there a color that feels particularly fall-y when paired with something else — that can then be moved to associate with a more warm-weather color? For me, this usually means that I prefer different sheet combinations in fall vs. spring and I also like to use my “earthier” stoneware vases in fall.

Fall is a very, very good time to do a refresh (gah! That word again!) on tableware — when you think about all the entertaining in the months to come. If you’re a Jewess like myself, you’ve got Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot, in addition to all the other winter holidays. Enter East Fork — an Asheville, NC-based tableware brand that’s a legitimately good company. They’re a B-corp, directing some profits to community partners. Their pottery is so wonderful. I own one of their dinnerware starter packs with dishes in Yuzu, Prune, and Eggshell colors.
East Fork’s fall drop is here, introducing two new glazes: Malachite and Sepia. (The third is Guava, an already existing glaze, but IMHO, a perfect unexpected complement to the autumn-y green/browns.)
